The Russell Fork is one of our favorite runs in the southeast. Running from Virginia into Kentucky through Breaks Interstate Park this is a true classic. Prepare yourself for solid class V action and the friendliest locals known to whitewater. Although it has been developed over the last several years we still like camping at the take-out, known as Ratliff Hole. Camping is also available on the way to the put-in at Breaks Interstate Park. Although Elkhorn City is dry as a bone (buy your booze before you come), it does have killer greasy spoon at the Rusty Fork Café. If you are looking to take a commercial rafting trip, Sheltowe Trace offers trips on the tamer, class III upper section, while Wahoo's Adventures out of Boone, NC offers trips through the class V gorge. |
